Right whale breeding population further threatened

The critically endangered North Atlantic right whales, with a population of less than 350 remaining in existence, suffered another blow to their survival last week.

Following the death one week earlier of another right whale, from fishing gear entanglement in Virginia, another breeding female has been injured, this time following a collision with a yacht in the waters off Cumberland Island, Georgia.

The whale suffered a serious near amputation of part of its tail fluke in the collision, and scientists are concerned that it may not survive. The whale
