All aboard for war on whalers

Mimi Macpherson has lent her support to activists about to embark on a mission to disrupt Japanese whalers.The sister of supermodel Elle Macpherson and long-time whale watching advocate, called the 42-strong crew heroes as they prepared to leave for Antarctica to block the whalers.

The Farley Mowat claims to have sunk eight Norwegian whaling boats dockside in its 30-year history.

“The Japanese whaling fleet is illegally targeting whales in the Southern Ocean. It’s our objective to stop them,” Capt Watson said.

Despite Farley Mowat’s history of confrontations Capt Watson said the 48m, 677-tonne former research boat, would not be attempting to ram the Japanese boats.
