Asda U-turn

Supermarket chain Asda has performed an about-turn on their move to ban sales of monkfish less than three months after it was first implemented.

Amid concerns over future stocks of the vulnerable fish – one of the Scottish fishing industry’s seven key species – Asda removed monkfish from their fish counters across the UK and urged celebrity chefs to back their campaign.

But the Sunday Herald has learned Asda buyers are now actively looking to reintroduce Scottish monkfish to their Scottish stores while supplies could also be secured for the rest of the country.
