Disney grants help wildlife

Sarasota’s Mote Marine Laboratory will shared in a $1.5 million grant from the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund to help save bottlenose dolphins from becoming entangled in discarded fishing gear.

Also sharing in the grant are programs to purchase land for conservation in Guatemala and a study of the interation between elephants and bees in Kenya.

The aim is to use the bees to keep elephants from eating crops. Disney has donated more than $11 million to worldwide conservation efforts since its Animal Kingdom Theme Park opened in 1998.
