BURG is intended as a bridge between the wider community and specialists in the marine field, providing a vehicle for Community involvement in marine-based projects in the Byron region.

BURG provides a unique opportunity for an interface between the scientific community, marine education and general community awareness and involvement in marine conservation projects.

History
The Byron Underwater Research Group was the brain child of Brian Hughes who at the time was the Coastcare Co-coordinator for the Byron region. In mid 2005 he approached other groups that might be interested in establishing a new marine awareness group in this area, including Southern Cross University, local schools and dive operators. From an initial meeting, BURG was born.
